At the eleventh month , the eleventh day, the eleventh hour this day every year trumpets sound the Last Post in a poignant reminder, Lest We Forget those that gave their lives in the grim “Great War” to secure freedom and peace enjoyed today.
Sadly since that time there have been too many other battles begging the question ‘Have we forgotten to remember the cost in human lives these battles have taken?’ Maybe not.
The resolve to protect, to maintain our values and peace is so strong we will never forget as witnessed by the young and old at the day’s ceremony, cold and creased faces tell where they have been. A piper plays the Lament’s sad notes while wreath’s are laid.
The Silver Cross mother this year appeared poised and dignified given the loss of her son in Afghanistan. The wreath she laid is for Mother’s of Canada who have born such loss.
The Rouse or Revile’s upbeat bugle call is an ending tribute in the ceremony signifying that in the morning we will remember them, poppies for the Unforgotten.
