Bobo’s Demise

Mary was “fed-up” with Bobo her pet monkey. Mary worked as an animal trainer in the Comos circus organization. Bobo came under her care several years ago and at first was a joy to have aroud. She followed Mary wherever she went copying her antics.

“Oh Bobo stop doing that! Picking your nose is not acceptable is it?”

Bobo shook her head and pointed to the bunch of bananas hanging outside of the pen. Mary found that they were a great motivator.

After several weeks of training Bobo was ready for the big tent. Initially she was shy but the sound of the children’s laughter and the clapping encouraged her.

One act that raised the decibels inside the big top was when Mary told Bobo “Fetch a fishing rod from the store.”

Bobo ran out of the ring out of the audience’s sight. After a few moment Bobo ran back inside with a big smile showing her white teeth. She was empty handed.

On the next try Bobo ran back inside holding a wet slippery fish, This became a display of juggling that both amused and amazed the crowd. At the right cue the circus master carrying a fish-net came out and Bobo placed the fish in the net. On Mary’s signal they both bowed.

Mary was like a mother to Bobo. She came to Bobo with words of wisdom, with banana’s and let Bobo be.

One day when Mary went to fetch Bobo her cage was empty. Mary’s anxiety sent her running all over the circus compound shouting “BoBo, Bobo…!!

At dusk Mary found Bobo lying motionless cuddled up against Leo’s huge frame. Leo’s paw rested on Bobo’s ribcage. To Mary they looked like lovers content in each others company.

Mary sighed and said “Of Dear. Bobo what have you done”
