What’s The Buzz?

This buzz is not Funk. A story within a story reveals that years ago, in the time of my misspent youth I was fortunate enough to join a Musgrove and Watson tour of Europe’s highlights. It was thought of as a kind of after-school mind expanding experience.

Many stops on the way bore this out; the face of Mona Lisa behind her protective shield, impressed by Madame Tussaud and imagine now Mark Antony lending his voice to the ears of his countrymen and with eyes open wide watching “Hair” in London. This was the fodder filling our open minds.

As young folks it didn’t take long to rename our tour “Must-Groove-No-Matter-Whats-On”. Free-time in the schedule became the flip side of the coin so to speak. A equally mind expanding experience one might say.

St. Marks square viewed from the top of the tower, now so often underwater, showed a plethora of pigeons.. Known as the “Jump into the cemetery” Innsbruck’s ski-hill was daunting. The Hoffbrauhaus in Munich where one couldn’t move and dare not move after a quick Bratwurst at the train station.

All of this was during Christmas time. One enduring memory is that after attending a show in London we stopped at a pub on the way back to the hotel. The spirit was jolly and everyone wished everyone else a “Merry Christmas”. This had somehow a different flavor to the “Happy Christmas” I was used to. Merry goes around as Happy hails from home. This a mix up in that happy hour.

For the life of me I cannot remember why we went to see “Jesus Christ Superstar”. All about stripping away the myth from the man, this rock opera described as a torch ballad brings another dimensionto the known story.

Tender moments of this love story get bound in political wrangling. Misunderstanding, Betrayal, Lashes and Crucifixion attempted to cut the message, a message shared big time prompting other twists to the story.

Regardless of what happened in the West End Theatre that night, the music and lyrics followed me so much so that the CD of that London production, the movie and several other shows, and later one twist in “The Life of Brian” have brought me to is day to say…

“’Always look on the bright side of life.” In essence it’s the effervescent.

In reality Yvonne Eliman’s voice says it all.
